Iranian animation ‘King Lear’ wins in Lithuania

Iranian animation ‘King Lear, Tragedy of Light’ wins at the 2021 Iconic Images filmfest in Lithuania.

Iranian animation ‘King Lear, Tragedy of Light’ has garnered the Best Iranian Film Award at the 2021 Iconic Images Film Festival in Lithuania.

Directed by Omid Movahhedi, the animation is a free adaptation of Shakespeare’s famous tragedy ‘King Lear’.

‘King Lear’ tells the story of a king who passes on his wealth and power to two of his daughters who flatters their father.

The third daughter who is not faltering her father gets nothing. In the end, the king reconciles with his third daughter but their story culminates in a tragedy.

The Lithuanian festival hosts short films, animations, and documentaries from around the world and provides an opportunity for filmmakers to showcase their works.

The 2021 edition of the event was held on January 20.
